Summer is a Wrap
/Summer is a Wrap! By Lilah Morrissey
With the welcoming of the Fall Equinox, Cobb Hill residents are busy harvesting the fruits of their labor over the summer months. The community is now blanketed in vibrant colors of herbs, vegetables, apples, pears, and berries. This abundance comes with a rush to harvest, store, and preserve before the end of the season. It almost seems miraculous, this bounty of delightful foods and flowers that can be found throughout our community.
Many of these delights are offered in prepared community meals. My family looks forward to seeing what garden-inspired dishes show up at the weekly potluck or monthly work day. Other events get organized when a need is identified to process a bumper crop. During our recent work day, community members came together to harvest apples and press them into cider. These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with our neighbors and keep community agriculture alive through shared harvesting and food preparation.
One of my favorite highlights from my summer was Camp Cobb Hill. Community members offered engaging and fun classes including playing improv games and crafting comic book paper into fun paper mâché creations. In another class, participants enjoyed harvesting crab apples and making apple sauce and apple jellies. Both adults and kids alike had a great time learning new skills, creating art, and connecting with their community.
Summer on the Hill was full of yummy experiences! Now is the time to finish the harvest, prepare the garden beds, and celebrate the richness of life.
